Demolition Services Limited successfully negotiated and completed two simultaneous contracts which involved the excavation and removal of some 80,000 tonnes of natural material to facilitate the construction of a new water treatment works together with the construction of 66 new dwellings.

The aim was to excavate approximately 80,000 tonnes of natural rock to form a new water treatment works at Yorkshire Water existing facility at Holmbridge, Huddersfield and transport it to a former cotton mill site, purchased by Beazer Homes Northern Ltd., known as Park Mill, Shaw, Oldham.

During the course of these works Demolition Services Ltd., also broke out and removed concrete ground floor slabs to the

previously demolished Mill, and all materials generated from both projects were recycled at the Shaw development utilising 2 No. mobile crushing units in order to produce a 6F2 hardcore capping material sufficient to use as fill, which could be spread, levelled and consolidated, prior to the installation of new raft foundations to facilitate the new house construction.

The major key to the efficient running of both operations was the careful forward planning required in order that materials were continuously moved between both projects, in a safe and controlled manner, utilising the complete range of resources available from within the company.

Both projects were completed on time and within budget.
