The 12 month contract was for Manchester City
Challenge winner Hulme Regeneration.
The works comprised the demolition of a number of 17
storey and 10 storey tower blocks constructed of a proprietary pre-cast
access deck system, together with the demolition of the
nearby
two storey steel framed Shopping Centre and Market Hall.
|
Works were carried out involving
traditional mechanical demolition techniques together with
the controlled use of explosives.
The works also involved the re-cycling of some 150,000 tonnes
of demolition rubble for use as backfill to the existing
basement, exposed during the course of the Shopping Centre
demolition. This ensured a fast transition into the new High
Street and Shopping Centre as part of the revamped Hulme
Estate.
