Demolition Services Ltd (DSL) seek to be a good corporate citizen in all aspects of our activities. We aim to foster customer loyalty, strengthen supplier and sub-contractor relationships, be a good employer and develop stronger community links. To achieve this we have brought together a series of operating principles under the broad heading of ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ (CSR).
Our CSR Commitments are incorporated within our everyday operations and include:
Environmental Sustainability
We have a policy of Reduce, Re-use, Recycle. This applies both in our offices and across our working sites. All of our office waste is segregated to maximise recycling and reprocessing at our local recycling depot. On site, we maximise the materials arising from our demolition operations for recycling and reuse to minimise waste to landfill. We aim for zero landfill and are currently running at 98% across contracts (2018-2019).
We aim to reduce our carbon footprint and in 2016 we replaced our fleet of vans with Volkswagen Caddys; as well as being more economical to run they have a low CO2 ‘B’ rating (Equa CO2 index).
We also source goods and services locally where possible to minimise delivery miles and support our local economies, both at the office and on site.
Economic
At DSL we source goods and supply services and works ethically and efficiently. We aim to cost less and provide added value to our clients while still ensuring that our operations trade profitably. This means that we are able to provide continuous employment opportunities and training for our staff and, where possible, provide local employment opportunities within the communities where we work across the UK. We provide training and employment opportunities for local people ranging from new entrants to skilled workers and retain these workers within the business wherever possible.
Social Values
We respect the interests of all our stakeholders – employees, customers, suppliers and the wider community. DSL has many accreditations including BS OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety) and these policies and procedures ensure that our works are carried out in a way that protects our staff, subcontractors, clients and members of the public. We fully train our employees and have regular training updates which include equality, safeguarding young and vulnerable people and good working practices.
In the workplace we believe in equal opportunities and have policies and procedures in place for Modern Slavery, Fair Work Practices, Equality and Discrimination. The health and wellbeing of all employees is very important to us and all employees have access to reduced cost healthcare, qualified therapists, gym memberships and online fitness schemes.
We support and encourage volunteering, charities and fundraising events in the community. We fundraise for Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity and Orchid (Fighting Male Cancer), and our Managing Director Tony Wray does a sponsored 22 mile walk every year from Leeds to York for St Martins Hospice.
We also sponsor Leeds United Football Club, Leeds Rhinos and our local junior football team.
